Fords adds to its growing list of factory installed conveniences and technologies available in 2010 with iTunes Tagging and HD Radio. Through the SYNC system, iTunes Tagging will provide Ford customers with the ability to capture a song they hear on the HD Radio receiver for later purchase. With a simple push of the “TAG” button on the radio display, the song information will be stored in the radio’s memory.

Up to 100 tags on SYNC can be stored until the iPod is connected. When the iPod is then synced to iTunes, a playlist of “tagged” songs will appear. Customers then can preview and, if desired, purchase and download tagged songs from the iTunes Store. All HD Radio-enabled receivers in Ford vehicles also will provide Program Service Data – information that appears on the radio screen and includes song title, artist name and more.

Many of us enjoy staying constantly connected to the internet wireless through a variety of devices everywhere they go, from home routers to cell phones and mobile broadband cards in computers. Now you can have a wireless connection to the internet through your Sync equipped Ford car as well. But Ford has upped the ante on how people get access to the internet. Currently many automakers like GM, Chrysler, and BMW offer a wireless internet connection solution that requires hardware purchase and install and its own monthly access fees. General Motors new Chevrolet Wi-Fi by Autonet Mobile requires a $199 dollar hardware component (after $200 mail in rebate), install, and a $29 monthly fee on top of that for 1.5 mbps connection. Ford’s Microsoft Sync system will allow you to connect though any wireless internet device that you many already own by simply plugging it in to the USB port provided in the vehicle already. So for those on the go who already have a wireless broadband USB device through their telecommunications carrier they can just plug in and have wireless internet. Sync will be able to recognize a wide range of cards and store multiple cards from you and your friends, this is a new push by Ford to keep people connected to their cars and draw in a younger buying crowd. More details to be released at CES in January.
