Set to open next year, the upcoming Green Hornet movie – which is based on the 1966-1967 TV series that starred Bruce Lee – will feature 29 1964-66 Chrysler Imperials; many of them were crashed, some were cut in two, and at least one was riddled with bullet holes.

Rounding up 29 1964 – 66 Chrysler Imperials and readying them for their close-ups – and lots of crashes.

Only two of the original Chrysler Imperials used in the 1966 TV series — the one that starred Van Williams and a then unknown Bruce Lee as Kato, Black Beauty’s driver — still exist. Both of them have been completely restored and neither were used in the new movie which is set for release in 2011.

More about them here.

In order to film scenes with the new Black Beauty, 29 ’60s-era Imperials were fit with roll cages, some were cut in two, and at least one had it’s suspension beefed up enough in to survive long leaps and intense landings.

Read the complete New York Times article on the Black Beauties, and how they were made movie-ready, here.

Whether you’re lucky enough to drive one of the Black Beauties or tool around town in one of the original Batmobiles, or cruise down the 405 in the black 1971 Barracuda from Phantasm, OdoClub can help save you money on the purchase of your next vehicle.
