Illinois. Momence, Illinois: James Bond museum will feature 007 cars a-plenty

Located about an hour south of Chicago, Momence, Illinois is set to become the location for a James Bond museum that will display 32 original Bond vehicles, including a helicopter from You Only Live Twice, the Lotus submarine from The Spy Who Loved Me and the Ford Mondeo from Casino Royale.

Momence is home to the Ian Fleming Foundation, which anticipates the museum will attract around 40,000 visitors during its first year of operation.

The Bond cars, including the 1971 Ford Mustang Mach 1 from Diamonds are Forever, will all be on display in one place at a brand-new 14,000 square foot museum in time for the 50th anniversary of the first Bond film, Dr. No.

James Bond’s Aston Martin DB5 — and all its spy gadgets — to be auctioned in October

An Aston Martin that was featured in two James Bond films is expected to sell at auction this October for about $5 million.

The 1964 DB5 had major roles in two Bond films, Goldfinger and Thunderball, and includes a lot of the original Bond gadgets, including guns that poke out through the taillights, a set of rotating license plates, a removable roof panel that makes it easy to get rid of an unwanted passenger sitting in the passenger/ejector seat.

VW Finally Builds a Hybrid — the 2011 Touareg

Volkswagen’s new hybrid Touareg’s cool feature is that it can shut down its V-6 engine while going as fast as 99 mph. VW spokespeople call this “sailing”

Shutting the engine down like this increases the engine-off operation of the Touareg into a range other hybrids have yet to achieve.

Take your foot off the gas pedal while coasting down an exit ramp and the engine shuts down. Lift your your foot from the throttle as you approach a pair of semis blocking the freeway, and the V-6 goes silent.

You can drive the Touareg at 80 mph for more than a mile in complete silence.
