Every day, more than 250,000 vehicles drive across the Bay Bridge — and this traffic (which can’ be re-routed) hasn’t stopped during the bridge’s $7-billion-plus retrofit and reconstruction project. When the project is complete, the Bay Bridge will have a 525-foot tower and be more 2,000 feet long.

China is envisioning a future filled with Brobdingnagian-sized buses engulfing Lilliputian-sized cars. The idea is to make use of the space between cars and bridges, saving construction costs and decreasing road congestion by making it possible for cars to drive beneath the big buses.
