It only has a brief drive-on — or crash-thru — appearance in the new A-Team movie, but resurrecting the iconic 1980s-era action-adventure TV show vehicle turned out to be quite the scavenger hunt.

The original A-Team vans — there was more than one, as they tended to get damaged often during filming — were black and metallic gray GMC Vanduras. One of the originals — still in pristine condition — is parked in the Cars of the Stars Motor Museum in Keswick, northern England.

For the new movie, several 1994 Chevrolet G20 cargo vans were stripped to bare steel so they could be retrofitted to look like their ’80s counterparts. Vendura-like lights, fender flares and other features were added. Other vintage parts were fabricated.

The new/old A-Team vans were rebadged with GMC logo and otherwise dolled up up to look like the vans in the original series — although the red stripe was somewhat altered.

To learn more about how the new A-Team van was created, read the complete USA Today article. To actually see it, albeit briefly, watch the new A-Team movie.
