BMW wasn’t always known as the “the ultimate driving machine.” On April 28, 1940, the carmaker achieved its greatest auto racing success, winning the inaugural Gran Premio Brescia dell Mille Miglia.
With their small, powerful engines and outstanding handling, BMW’s team of 328 racers won third, fifth and sixth place in the historic race. Seventy years later, the victory is still celebrated by BMW, and is considered a milestone in the automaker’s history.
