The Car-puccino — a 1988 Volkswagen Scirocco that has been modified to run on gassified coffee grounds — will be driven from London to Manchester for the BBC show Bang Goes The Theory.
The Car-puccino uses a kilo of grounds to go just three miles. Not great mileage, but there’s no shortage of Starbucks — and free coffee grounds — for refueling.
The Car-puccino will require take more than 150 pounds of coffee to make the 210-mile trip. Although the java-fueled car can hit speeds of 60 mph, the trip could take as long as ten hours — the car has to stop every 60 miles to have its coffee filters cleaned.
