OnStar was Mr. Jose Ruiz’s hero after he was carjacked in Visalia Ca. Stopped at a light in the early morning Mr. Ruiz was approached by a man with a gun and told to get out of his Chevy Tahoe and remove the contents of his pockets. Ruiz’s cousin was in the car with him and at first refused to comply. However, knowing that OnStar would recover the vehicle Mr. Ruiz told his cousin to obey. As the Tahoe sped off Mr. Ruiz went to find a pay phone and instead found an off duty sheriff on her break. The sheriff notified local police about the carjacking. Officers quickly contacted OnStar and with Mr. Ruiz’s permission tracked the vehicle, as officers spotted it the suspect started to flee. That is when OnStar sent a signal to disable the vehicle. The Tahoe rolled to a slow stop and the 21 year old suspect was apprehended. From notification of the stolen vehicle it took OnStar only 16 minutes to find the truck and disable it so the police could apprehend the suspect. Mr. Ruiz had his Chevy Tahoe and property returned to him the same day as his carjacking.
