On July 24, the government’s Car Allowance Rebate System program — it’s informally referred to as “Cash for Clunkers” — begins.
To help car owners better understand the program, Irvine, Calif-based Kelley Blue Book is offering a free online service that outlines the rules for Cash for Clunkers, as well as a ‘Clunker Calculator‘ to determine if the program will help them.
Cash for Clunkers makes it possible for consumers to qualify for a $4,500 rebate on the purchase or lease of a new vehicle that get 10 miles per gallon more than a trade-in car or 5 mpg or more than a trade-in light truck.
New cars that achieve between 4 – 9 mpg more than a trade-in car, or 2 – 4 mpg more than a trade-in light truck qualify for a $3,500 incentive.
